Israel closes British consulate in East Jerusalem and expels diplomats in response to UK sanctions

Breaking

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced that Israel will close the British consulate in East Jerusalem and expel British representatives from the Coordination and Liaison Office in Gaza in response to sanctions imposed by Britain on Israeli settlements.

Sa’ar’s announcement came after the UK government, under Foreign Secretary David Miliband, announced a ban on settlement goods imports and new restrictions on arms exports to Israel, accusing the Israeli government of enabling ‘ethnic cleansing’ of Palestinians.

The moves represent a significant escalation in diplomatic tensions between Israel and the United Kingdom, with Israel taking direct retaliatory measures against British diplomatic presence in contested territories.
