Doctor at Soroka Medical Centre sentenced to 27 months for pledging allegiance to ISIS

Breaking

Dr. Mohamed Azam, a physician at Soroka Medical Centre in Beersheba, has been sentenced to two years and three months imprisonment for joining the designated terror organisation ISIS following the 7 October attacks. According to the court ruling, Azam underwent ideological radicalisation and swore allegiance to ISIS and its leadership after October 7.

The court determined that Azam posed a potential security risk due to his employment in a sensitive medical facility and demonstrated intentions to harm state security. His access to hospital premises and patients presented a material threat to national security.

In addition to imprisonment, the court imposed a 12-month suspended sentence and fined Azam 15,000 shekels. The case represents a significant security concern given his position within the healthcare system and his access to critical infrastructure.
