Due to accelerated aging: the cities in Israel with a surge in demand for sheltered housing

A survey commissioned by the Palas Ra'anana sheltered housing indicates a 35% jump in demand for sheltered housing in Ra'anana and Herzliya in the first quarter of 2024. One of the reasons is the accelerated aging of the population in these old cities.

19% of the population of Ra'anana are 65+ and 20% of the population in Herzliya belong to the same age group. The great demand for living in sheltered housing in the area has resulted in the 65 to 70 year olds being forced to enter waiting lists and sometimes several years pass before they are able to reserve residential units for themselves. There are 321 housing units in Palas Ra'anana from the Azrieli Group.

Sheltered housing has become a widespread phenomenon in Israel in recent years. Since the Gaza war began, the adult population group has felt loneliness and the sheltered housing is a certain solution to the mental and sometimes also physical needs of the clients.

The cost of staying in sheltered housing ranges from NIS 15,000 per month to NIS 30,000 per month, depending on the quality of the place and the quality of the services provided.

Palace Ra'anana CEO Shlomit Ravid confirms the data and adds: "The waiting time to receive apartments in assisted living in the Ra'anana and Herzliya area is about six months to a year. That's why it pays to be early and book a place."
