Ex-IDF Chief Halevi breaks silence on October 7, calls attack preventable

Breaking

Herzi Halevi, who resigned in 2025, has broken his silence on the October 7 Hamas attack, stating it was ‘absolutely preventable’ and denying any internal betrayal within the IDF caused the security failure. The former chief of staff called for a comprehensive inquiry into the attack to ‘look failure in the eye’ and examine what went wrong.

Halevi also revealed that the IDF had warned Hezbollah against entering the conflict, suggesting internal communications regarding threat assessment were occurring despite the security breach. His comments represent the first major statement from the highest-ranking military official responsible during the attack.

The ex-chief’s assertions directly contradict suggestions of internal sabotage and emphasise systemic and intelligence failures rather than deliberate obstruction by military personnel.
