Hezbollah condemns Lebanon’s Israeli ceasefire deal as ‘completely one-sided’

Hezbollah has launched a scathing attack on Lebanon’s government over the ceasefire agreement with Israel, claiming the deal contains no provisions that benefit the Lebanese state. Hassan Fadlallah, a member of parliament representing the Shia militant group’s “Loyalty to Resistance” bloc, made the comments during a memorial ceremony for a Hezbollah activist on Sunday.

Fadlallah accused the Lebanese authorities of capitulating to Israeli demands, asserting that the agreement merely allows Israel to achieve through negotiation what it failed to accomplish on the battlefield. According to the Hezbollah politician, the deal entrenches Israeli occupation, establishes a buffer zone along the border, and prevents any accountability for alleged Israeli war crimes committed against Lebanese civilians and combatants.

The remarks represent an escalation in Hezbollah’s opposition to the ceasefire framework, which was brokered with international mediation following months of cross-border conflict. Fadlallah further alleged that Lebanon’s government is using the continuation of Israeli occupation as leverage to pressure Hezbollah into abandoning its armed resistance activities entirely, suggesting the government sees the ceasefire as an opportunity to diminish the group’s influence within Lebanon.

The criticism underscores deep divisions within Lebanese politics, with Hezbollah maintaining that any agreement must include mechanisms for prosecuting Israeli officials at international courts and must not legitimise the country’s military presence in Lebanese territory.
