A senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to its alliance with Russia, declaring that Moscow will always stand by the Islamic Republic. Hussein Maroufie, deputy commander of the Guards, stated on Sunday that Russia is Iran’s ally and will remain so “without question,” emphasising the strength of their partnership.
Maroufie characterised good neighbourly relations between Russia and Iran as a defining feature of their historical ties that continue to the present day. He suggested that the West has attempted to drive a wedge between the two nations, but insisted such efforts would never succeed.
The comments underscore deepening ties between Tehran and Moscow, particularly as both nations face international isolation and sanctions. Iran has provided weapons and support to Russia during its invasion of Ukraine, while Russia has backed Iran diplomatically at the United Nations and provided military and nuclear assistance. The Revolutionary Guards statement appears designed to signal that no amount of Western pressure will weaken the strategic partnership between the two countries.
