33-year-old Ranieli Coelho Santos, mother of a 9-year-old girl, arrived at the hospital's maternity ward on April 28, and when the staff noticed that the contractions were getting stronger, they called the pregnant woman's partner as well, according to reports.
The obstetrician, whose name has not been published, applied pressure to the mother's abdomen, and during the birth, tried to pull the baby quickly and "tore the child's head off", as testified the heartbroken father who filed a complaint with the local police. According to the parents, a social worker from the hospital promised that the hospital would cover the burial costs – but on the condition that they agree to sign a waiver, according to which "the autopsy has already been performed and that it will not be transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine" for further analysis.

The family's lawyer, Jennifer Valente, said the parents refused to sign the document and demanded an autopsy on the newborn's body. The results of the autopsy have not been released and the police investigation is ongoing. The hospital has not yet responded to the local media.
