A former commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has issued a stark warning to the United States, threatening a dramatic escalation in military action if American attacks persist. Mohsen Razaei stated on Friday that should US strikes continue over the coming days, Iran would move beyond its current posture of deterrence and mutual retaliation into what he described as a phase of “attack and total annihilation” of its adversaries.
The inflammatory rhetoric marks a significant hardening of Iran’s tone amid escalating regional tensions. Razaei’s comments suggest that Iranian leadership is preparing domestic and international audiences for a potential major military response should Washington continue military operations targeting Iranian interests or allies in the region.
The threat comes amid an increasingly volatile cycle of strikes and counter-strikes between the US and Iran-aligned forces across the Middle East. Iran has previously demonstrated its willingness to launch direct attacks on Israeli and American targets, and such statements from senior military figures are typically considered indicative of official government positions, given the tight control exercised by Iran’s supreme leadership over major security decisions.
