Israeli Defence Force (IDF) spokesman announced on Friday that several Israeli civilians have been located in the border region between Israel and Syria. IDF forces operating in the area tracked down the individuals and moved to bring them back to safety across the border.
The civilians had crossed into Syrian territory the previous evening near the town of Majdal Shams, a Druze community in the occupied Golan Heights. After their discovery, they were handed over to Israeli police for further questioning and processing.
The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in the Golan Heights region, which has remained tense following Syria’s civil war and the increased Iranian military presence in the area. Israeli authorities have repeatedly warned against unauthorised border crossings in the region due to safety risks.
