The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) announced on Wednesday that it had destroyed several Hamas weapons storage facilities across central and northern Gaza during the past week. One of the destroyed caches had been established inside a mosque in the northern Gaza Strip. The IDF stated that the discovery represented ‘another example of terrorist organisations using civilian infrastructure for terrorist purposes.’ The military said it had targeted the facilities based on intelligence indicating they were being used to store weaponry and ammunition for the militant group. Hamas, designated as a terrorist organisation by Israel, the United States, and several other countries, has previously been accused by Israel of deliberately placing military assets in civilian locations including schools, hospitals, and places of worship. The IDF said it took precautions to minimise civilian casualties during the strikes, though the extent of any damage or casualties was not immediately disclosed.
