A senior Israeli MP has strongly criticised the live broadcast dismissal of a military commander, describing it as an unprecedented breach of protocol. Avi Maoz, chairman of the Noam party, made the comments on radio station North 104.5FM, expressing concern about how a serving officer was treated publicly.
Maoz argued that the manner of the dismissal was inappropriate and violated established norms. He stated that removing a commander who has dedicated himself to protecting Israeli settlements and civilians should never be handled in such a public manner during a live broadcast.
The remarks highlight tensions within Israeli political and military circles regarding how disciplinary matters involving senior military figures should be handled. According to Maoz, if the defence minister had concerns with a commander’s performance, the proper course of action would be to call them in for a private discussion rather than announcing their dismissal publicly.
