Jared Kushner, special adviser to US President Donald Trump, has revealed that the United States exploited international isolation following Israel’s failed assassination attempt on Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar to pressure Israel into accepting a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Kushner made the controversial comments during a public appearance on Rosh Hashanah.
According to multiple Israeli sources including Ynet and Walla, Kushner characterised the Doha strike as a military failure but stated it ultimately proved beneficial for reaching a Gaza deal. He indicated that the Trump administration capitalised on the international crisis that ensued to increase pressure on Israel to accept terms for ending hostilities.
Kushner claimed that while there was initial discomfort with the situation, the outcome proved “excellent for Israel and Gaza residents.” His comments suggest the failed operation, which occurred approximately one year prior, became a diplomatic leverage point in subsequent negotiations. The remarks have drawn attention to the intersection of military operations and diplomatic negotiations in the Gaza conflict resolution process.
