A significant disagreement has emerged between the Israeli political and military leadership regarding an ongoing military operation in Hebron. The IDF Chief of Staff has argued that the operation, which was launched following a terror attack, has been exhausted and should conclude.
However, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Defence Minister have rejected the military’s recommendation and insist on continuing the operation. According to reports, no weapons have been found on a significant scale to justify the continued presence.
Legal advisors have raised concerns about the difficulties in continuing military activity without clear operational achievements. Despite this, the political level has argued for a deterrent effect. However, security officials have expressed concerns that the operation may inspire copycat attacks rather than prevent them.
The disagreement reflects broader tensions between the political and military establishments over operational strategy and the balance between security objectives and legal constraints.
