Shin Bet chief clashes with state prosecutor over Arab MK investigation authorization

Breaking

Shin Bet Director Ronen Zini demanded that state prosecutor Gali Baharav-Miara authorize investigations into four Arab members of Knesset, according to reporting by Ynet. When Baharav-Miara requested reasonable grounds for suspicion, Zini reportedly responded: “You approved investigations on less.”

The confrontation, described as a “shouting match,” reflects escalating tensions between the security establishment and the justice system over investigative authority. Zini further claimed that “up to 100 million shekels have been transferred” in reference to suspected illegal funding, suggesting national security concerns.

Baharav-Miara and other officials countered that the Shin Bet itself could pose a threat to democracy. The incident underscores disputes over oversight of security operations and the legal standards required to initiate investigations into elected officials.
