According to Telegraph reports, an Omani pilot suspected of planning to crash a FlyDubai aircraft in Israel received training at prestigious aviation academies in Britain and New Zealand before obtaining his pilot’s licence. The suspect, identified as Al-Mamari, studied in the West during his formative years as a pilot.
In social media posts, the suspect described his years of study in Western countries as a period of intense religious strengthening, and made statements against women. Authorities have linked his radicalization trajectory to his aviation training period abroad.
The suspect was previously dismissed from his position as a pilot with Oman Air after extremist materials were discovered in his possession. This case highlights security vulnerabilities in international aviation training programmes and the challenges of identifying radicalized individuals within the aviation industry.
