Tel Aviv builds landmark 170-metre bridge to reconnect divided neighbourhoods

Tel Aviv municipality has begun construction of a new 170-metre bridge spanning Rokach Boulevard, a major urban artery that will link the city’s north-western neighbourhoods directly to Yarkon Park. The ambitious infrastructure project aims to improve connectivity across the city whilst creating a striking architectural addition to Tel Aviv’s skyline. According to municipality officials, the bridge will serve as a vital pedestrian and cycling link, reducing journey times for residents and encouraging greater use of the city’s green spaces. Meital Lahavi, a senior municipal official, stated that “a connected city is a safer, quieter and more accessible city,” highlighting the authority’s vision for urban planning that prioritises pedestrian infrastructure. The project represents part of Tel Aviv’s broader strategy to address urban fragmentation caused by major roads and to enhance quality of life across different districts. The new bridge is expected to encourage foot traffic between residential areas and the expansive Yarkon Park, whilst potentially boosting commercial activity in the surrounding neighbourhoods through improved accessibility and pedestrian movement.
