The cost of living: "Companies and manufacturers recognize the government's weakness"

The consumer price index published yesterday showed an increase of 0.8%, after a five percent increase during the last 12 months. Amir Eyal, the owner of the Infinity Investment Group, commented on the alarming data in a conversation he had this morning (Tuesday) with Gideon Oko on 103FM.

Israel is getting more expensive: the consumer price index for the month of April rose by 0.8%

"We see here that as soon as a supplier or manufacturer can – he raises prices. For a long time there was some kind of restraint or another, and as soon as it is suddenly possible, then everyone raises prices. The Israeli public groans under the high interest rates and increasing debt, certainly in real estate. This does not mean that every month we will see price increases. It was the previous month, and apparently it will be this month, but in the summer the indicators are usually reset," he explained at the beginning of his words.

Do the companies and manufacturers recognize a weakness of the government and take advantage of it?
"Unequivocally. What they are doing is not enough. The one who has a guillotine in his hand is the governor of the Bank of Israel, and he will lower it. He will raise the price of money, and once again the households will pay the price."

When asked what is the most pressing thing that the government needs to take care of, he said: "What needs to be done is clear, strategic plans, to have clear governance in the economic field. What about the housing cabinet? You think prices will go down, but if they don't start mass construction, then what will happen in another year -Two years? In addition, the government does not lower the land prices, and the contractors will not buy because it is not profitable for them. What do you expect? That the prices will go down? We need much clearer plans to lower the cost of living."
