The salary of women in government offices is NIS 3,300 lower than the salary of men

The average salary in the government offices in 2022 was NIS 18,029 gross per month, with the women's salary being about 17% lower than the men's, a difference of about NIS 3,292 on average. This is according to the reports of the salary commissioner at the Ministry of Finance published at the end of the week.

The reports include the government ministries, the public health system (including the non-government supervised public hospitals) and the formal education system. The report data is for the year 2022. Women earn on average 84.4% of men's wages, a gap of NIS 2,085. The report also shows that on average 12% of the salary of government employees is for additional work, while reimbursement of expenses constitutes 9% of the salary. The top earners are the doctors, with eight of them earning at least NIS 80,000 gross. In the public hospitals, the average salary is NIS 20,561 gross per month. In total, the data includes 6,318 doctors with an average gross salary of NIS 36,281.

The report also shows that the average salary for the judges' typists is about ten thousand NIS gross. The authors of the report explained that "Not long ago, the periodic wage agreement for public sector employees was signed with the new Histadrut. This agreement implements a number of principles that are intended to help deal with some of the difficulties that characterize the public sector, including the prioritization of the wages of workers in absorption and low wage levels, the expansion of administrative tools and stability for a significant period – until the end of 2027 (including a mechanism for allocating resources to solve future problems). The agreement also includes a shortening of the work week for a significant portion of the employees) and the establishment of a joint institution for labor relations. The positive effects of the agreement are expected to be reflected, beyond the current conduct of collective labor relations, in the reports of the following years".
