Two teenagers charged with arson attack on Givatayim restaurant while staff member inside

Israeli prosecutors have filed formal charges against two 18-year-old men accused of deliberately setting fire to a Japonica restaurant in Givatayim approximately one month ago. Hanan Yaakov and Oshir Bayik, both from Ramat Hasharon, face serious criminal charges relating to the incident.

According to the indictment filed with Tel Aviv District Court, the pair arrived at the restaurant equipped with an electric scooter, flammable materials, and fire-starting devices. After concealing their identities, Yaakov allegedly poured the flammable liquid around the premises and ignited it. The attack occurred while at least one member of staff was present inside the restaurant at the time.

Prosecutors have requested that both men remain in custody throughout the duration of their trial proceedings. The charges represent a significant escalation, with arson attacks on occupied premises carrying severe penalties under Israeli law. The incident has raised concerns about public safety in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.
