The UAE Prosecutor General has confirmed that co-pilot on Flydubai Flight 1073 attacked the pilot with an axe in the cockpit in an apparent attempt to take control of the aircraft, according to multiple sources including Israel Hayom and Jerusalem Post.
The incident has been classified as a terrorist attack attempt. Digital evidence obtained by CNN revealed social media posts made from the aircraft during the attack, including videos of El Al and Arkia aircraft and images of al-Qaeda leaders posted on the day of the incident.
The Omani co-pilot targeted the captain with the axe in what authorities describe as a deliberate attempt to seize control of the plane. The investigation into the motivation and circumstances surrounding the attack remains ongoing.
