Senior Iranian officials have confirmed plans to target American diplomats, according to reports citing US intelligence assessments. The New York Times reported that American officials believe Iranian plans to attack senior US figures are advancing from the planning stage toward execution.

The escalation comes as President Donald Trump is reportedly considering authorising significant retaliatory strikes to demonstrate his authority remains intact. Israeli sources indicate Prime Minister Netanyahu may also order a strike against Iran, potentially before elections, fearing his successor would hesitate to act.

US diplomats have issued warnings about the heightened threat level. Both American and Israeli assessments, based on the latest intelligence, confirm Iran’s intentions to target US ambassadors and senior officials.
