Chairman of the Economic Committee David Bitan today (Monday) presented a package of laws to deal with the cost of living that will be submitted early next week. The words were said at another meeting held today by the Economic Committee on the subject of the cost of living, continuing the series of discussions on the subject that Chairman Bitan has been holding since taking office. At the beginning of the discussion, Chairman Bitan welcomed the Prime Minister's decision to establish a ministerial committee chaired by him to fight the cost of living, and mentioned that the committee was the one that put the issue on the agenda in recent months.

Bitten added: "It is not the role of the Economic Committee to wage this war and enact laws, it is the role of the government, of the Minister of Finance, the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Economy. We still do not see proposals that fight the problem now and that can reduce prices at the moment. The fact that you want to fight monopolies is very important , the war on the cost of living is long-term and has an impact little by little, but I asked the Minister of Finance to stop the increase in the prices of controlled dairy products and I warned that if this does not happen, it will lead to a large price increase, and that is what happened."
"So as we promised, at the beginning of next week we will submit bills, the first of which is to compare VAT on food to the OECD up to 8 percent. Another bill will be on the issue of banks that will deal indirectly with those who have a mortgage for a first apartment of up to a million and a half shekels, those people will receive income tax credit points to deal with the increase in interest rates. In addition, as for the banks that do not give a benefit on deposits to customers, we will submit a bill that will increase the tax on the profits that result from the interest rate increases. If the banks don't want to pay tax, then let them give benefits in interest on deposits."

"I am disappointed with the Ministry of Transportation for not taking care of the increase in the price of parking in Tel Aviv," Bitan added. "We realized that the Tel Aviv municipality is not interested in this, so I asked to prepare a bill that cancels this increase and cancels the law that allows the authorities to raise the price of parking without the consent of anyone. In addition, we will consider transferring 30% of the parking fines to the traffic division of the police for the benefit of road safety."
Chairman Bitan concluded his statement by saying that these will be the proposals that will be submitted next week, and mentioned: "We gave the Treasury a chance to deal with it and they didn't, so we are free to do what we think and it will be left to the Minister of Finance and the head of the budget division to have more laws." The discussion on conclusions MK Eliyahu Baruchi 's team, which examined measures to lower prices in the marketing chains, is still ongoing at this time, a full announcement will be sent after it is finished.
