Trump loses patience with Iran’s ‘two-faced’ diplomacy

Donald Trump has launched a sharp attack on Iran’s leadership, accusing the country of duplicitous behaviour following Tehran’s denial of ongoing negotiations with the United States. The former US president and current Republican frontrunner expressed frustration at what he characterised as Iranian double-dealing, using the phrase “two-faced” to describe the regime’s approach to talks.

Trump reasserted American military dominance in the region, emphasising that the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes—remains under the control of the US Navy. The strait, which lies between Iran and Oman, is critical to global energy supplies, with roughly a third of seaborne traded oil passing through its narrow waters.

In his most forceful statement yet on the matter, Trump declared: “Nothing will pass until a deal is reached or complete submission is achieved.” The comment reflects a hardline stance, suggesting he will not tolerate what he views as Iranian obfuscation or delay tactics in any future negotiations.

The tensions come as diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran remain stalled. Iran has repeatedly denied engaging in substantive talks with the United States, while Washington has suggested behind-the-scenes communications are occurring. Trump’s inflammatory language suggests he is attempting to ramp up pressure on the Iranian government to return to the negotiating table on terms favourable to the United States.
