The Viet Cong Model and the Lessons of the Past
The current Iranian strategy draws deep inspiration from the fighting methods of the Viet Cong in the Vietnam War. The North Vietnamese realized that a frontal physical confrontation against the military might of the United States was almost impossible. Therefore, they shifted the center of gravity to psychological warfare. The goal was not to destroy the American army on the battlefield, but to undermine the legitimacy of the war at home.
Today, the Iranians are implementing this model while adapting it to the 21st century. They identify the political polarization in the US, under the Trump administration, as a strategic weakness. The goal is not to "sell" the Shiite agenda to the average American, but to deepen the internal divide and drag the neutral public towards anti-war positions.
Sophistication in Disguise: The "Lego Rap" Campaign
The use of Lego is not accidental, it is designed to get through psychological defenses. No one wants to consume enemy propaganda, but a "satirical" video that appears to be a product of American pop culture shares itself. The content behaves as if it were created by an internal opposition in the US, and thus manages to penetrate the heart of public discourse through virality on social networks.
The "Slopaganda" strategy
In parallel with the polished content, Iran has recently adopted the method of slopaganda – flooding the network with mass-produced AI-generated content “slop.” In the past two weeks, we have witnessed the flooding of social networks with thousands of mediocre images, posts, and news, designed to “poison the well of information.”
The goal of the sloppiness is not necessarily to convince the viewer of the correctness of the Iranian message, but rather to create a sense of confusion and disempowerment in the average citizen. When the Internet is flooded with contradictory, false, and confusing information, the public becomes indifferent and tends to withdraw from any active support for the war, simply because "it is impossible to know what is true."
What can we do?
The campaign against Iran proves once again that modern warfare is not limited to the kinetic battlefield, it is happening every moment inside our phones, at the heart of public discourse in Israel. In order not to become soldiers in the service of Iranian propaganda, we must adopt a "conscious Iron Dome" based on civil vigilance.
The first step is to identify the emotional trigger. If a social media post makes you feel extremely angry or anxious, stop. This is usually the first sign of manipulation. Adopt the "30-second rule" and wait before sharing, cross-checking sources with official news channels. Check the credibility of the advertiser's profile to make sure you are not responding to a bot, as each response only increases their exposure.
Remember that the Iranians aim to create chaos and apathy. The more we maintain digital hygiene and educate our environment to be critical, the more we will neutralize their ability to dismantle us from within. Our national resilience is today measured not only by standing firm against missiles, but also by the ability to filter out digital poison and remain united in the face of complex reality.
