IDF detains 90 West Bank olive harvest volunteers including US congressional nominee

Breaking

The Israeli Defence Force detained approximately 90 volunteers near Bethlehem who were accompanying Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest, according to Rabbis for Human Rights. The detainees included Lander, a US congressional nominee, who was released with a warning.

The volunteers were working as part of a humanitarian effort to escort Palestinian farmers to their olive groves. Rabbis for Human Rights, which organised the activity, indicated the detentions represented an obstruction to peaceful agricultural work in the West Bank.

The incident comes amid ongoing tensions between Israeli security forces and international observers operating in Palestinian territories. The detention of a US congressional nominee is likely to draw diplomatic attention and scrutiny of Israeli detention practices.
