Israel has ordered significantly more military equipment from the United States than covered by the current bilateral military aid agreement, according to a report cited by the Jerusalem Post. The defence ministry will require approximately $10 billion in additional funding to pay for existing orders after 2028, when the current US military aid agreement expires.
This disclosure raises questions about future defence budget allocations and the sustainability of Israel’s military procurement plans. The gap suggests that either Israel’s defence needs have expanded beyond the scope of the existing aid framework, or that purchasing commitments were made without corresponding budgetary provisions for the post-2028 period.
The timing is significant as it highlights potential challenges in US-Israel defence cooperation and the need for negotiations on future military assistance arrangements.
