Toxic fumes sicken 34 people including child at Jerusalem educational facility

Breaking

An emergency incident unfolded at an educational institution in the Shuafat neighbourhood of Jerusalem when 34 people, including approximately 30 children and 4 staff members, were exposed to toxic cleaning chemicals. Ynet and Israel Hayom both reported the incident, with the latter noting 34 casualties whilst Walla initially reported 25 affected individuals, suggesting the final toll may have been revised upward.

Among the casualties was a child approximately 10 years old in moderate condition suffering from respiratory difficulties. The remaining 33 victims were reported to be in light condition. According to Magen David Adom, the toxic exposure resulted from improper mixing of cleaning agents, specifically a combination involving acid and chlorine.

Emergency medical teams from Magen David Adom provided initial medical treatment at the scene and began evacuating casualties to hospitals in Jerusalem. The incident highlights serious safety concerns regarding chemical handling protocols in educational facilities.
