Israel swelters in record heat as temperatures soar past 43°C

Jerusalem recorded 33°C, the coastal plains hit 35°C, whilst humidity levels on the coast exceeded 70 per cent, creating oppressive conditions across the country. The intense weather has triggered multiple wildfires in Samaria and northern Israel, adding to emergency service pressures during the heatwave.

Metorologists have warned that Thursday’s scorching temperatures are merely a prelude to even worse conditions ahead. The remainder of the week is expected to bring the hottest day of the entire seven-day period, with forecasters advising residents to prepare for continued severe heat and dangerous thermal stress. The relentless conditions will persist across all regions of the country, from Jerusalem’s elevated terrain to the lowlands and coastal areas.

The abrupt temperature surge marks a dramatic shift from the pleasant weather that characterised June, which now feels like a distant memory for many Israelis. Authorities have urged the public to take precautions against heat-related illness, including staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable populations. The combination of extreme temperatures, high humidity, and active fires has created a challenging situation for emergency services across the nation.
