Seven suspects were arrested in a police raid led by the anti-corruption unit Lahav 433, including Tel Sheva council chief Umar Zaal Al-Aasem in the south. His detention was extended for eight days, with six additional suspects held for questioning.

According to the investigation, public funds were fraudulently withdrawn from the council’s coffers and transferred to the suspects’ personal accounts. Police stated that the suspects allegedly engaged in bribery, tender manipulation, and fictitious employment schemes.

The Israel Police released a statement saying: “Criminal elements in the Bedouin sector are attempting to convert law-abiding authorities into crime strongholds.” The investigation is ongoing with additional suspects under interrogation.
