Israel’s police investigation chief has escalated tensions with the Shin Bet security service, demanding that all material transferred to the agency must first pass through his office. Head of Police Investigations Unit Boaz Blit stated that “assistance in removing cameras, investigations or any other action” must go through his approval.
The clash stems from a corruption investigation related to elections, with the police chief asserting control over sensitive materials. The Shin Bet has resisted transferring investigation details to police for several days, while simultaneously requesting to interrogate Arab party leaders without presenting evidence.
This institutional conflict raises serious questions about oversight, transparency and the proper chain of command in sensitive security investigations affecting Israeli democracy.
