State employee arrested on suspicion of bribery linked to foreign worker smuggling from Turkey

Breaking

Unit 433 (Israel Police investigations unit) has arrested a state employee and several contractors on suspicion of operating a network to smuggle foreign workers from Turkey through Jordan. The investigation reveals an organised scheme involving bribery and exploitation of vulnerable workers.

According to the suspicions, the contractors paid bribes to the state employee to avoid enforcement operations at construction sites. Notably, portions of these bribes were collected from the foreign workers themselves, who were paying for illegal entry and employment in Israel. The arrangements allegedly occurred across multiple construction sites.

The suspects are being brought for hearings on remand extension. The case involves serious criminal allegations including bribery, abuse of office, and human trafficking-related offences.
