Opposition coalition parties have formally requested that Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana be replaced, with multiple factions submitting letters to the Likud-controlled parliamentary leadership demanding the change take effect as early as Tuesday, according to Ynet reporting.
The move represents an attempt to “realise the clear parliamentary majority,” as stated by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. Coalition leaders are working to implement personnel changes following recent political shifts, though disagreement persists among coalition heads regarding Ohana’s successor.
Knesset Speaker Ohana has clarified the procedural requirements for holding a vote on the matter, stating: “There will be no holding onto the horns of the altar,” a reference to parliamentary immunity protections.
