The Iran-backed Houthi rebel group has captured the remainder of Yemen’s Red Sea coast following a week-long offensive, triggering mass displacement and renewed fighting in the region. According to Times of Israel reporting, approximately 76,000 people have fled the Houthi advance, with thousands seeking shelter in crowded rooms in Aden amid what witnesses describe as ‘hysterical panic’.

The Houthis have claimed to have struck a Saudi base with missiles and drones, with reports indicating two people were injured by projectiles on Saudi Arabia’s southern border. The UN has warned that this renewed conflict ‘should alarm us all’, highlighting the humanitarian implications of the rebel group’s territorial gains.

A CNN report cited by Jerusalem Post reveals that Yemen’s military rosters are filled with ‘ghost names’, leaving defensive positions vulnerable to Houthi takeover. Blame for the apparent lack of military resistance has been split between Yemeni leaders, the United States, and Saudi Arabia.
