Israeli Defence Force troops detained Alon-Lee Green, chairman of the political party Meretz (formerly “There is a Place for Everyone”), and additional activists who arrived at Beit Uula village in Judea and Samaria on Friday. The activists were protesting against an unauthorised outpost established in the area by settlers.

According to reports, the outpost was founded by a son of Baruch Goldstein, the extremist settler responsible for the 1994 Hebron massacre. The detained activists were demonstrating against this settlement.

Party officials criticised the military’s response, stating: “Instead of protecting residents, the army is removing us.” The incident highlights ongoing tensions between Israeli security forces, left-wing protest movements, and settler activities in the West Bank.

The detentions occurred during a period of heightened activity in disputed territories, with competing claims over land use and civilian access to protest sites.
